The Gayla's History
The founders of the Christmas Dinner Dance were Ed Hoffman, Dick Flock, and David Hindall. Coming from various areas of business in the Northwest Ohio, these individuals decided to create an event that would bring the GLBT community together during the holidays. Over the years all three of these men have supported multiple charitable organizations, but the dinner dance, which began in 1977 with 16 people in attendance, has been their most enduring hallmark. The Toledo City Council has twice recognized this event on the 20th and 25th anniversaries. All three men are regularly in attendance at the event and we want to again recognize their contributions to the GLBT community.
In 2007, after 30 years of hosting the Dinner Dance, they asked several new individuals to assume the responsibility of planning the affair. In 2008 it became known as The Holiday with Heart Charity Gayla and was granted 501c3 status as a non-profit organization by the federal and state government. The Gayla continues the original intent as an opportunity for the entire gay community to come together around the holidays, but now we can share the generosity and holiday spirit with organizations that provide support to the GLBT family.
Unfortunately, Holiday with Heart co-founder, Richard Flock, passed away the evening of Sept. 27, 2011. We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our founding members. Dick was a loving partner, friend, and advocate of this community. Dick will be sorely missed.

We want to thank Ed, Dick, and David for their enduring support of the
Holiday with Heart Charity Gayla.
