Holiday with Heart Announces White Level Sponsorship

The Ryan White Center at the University of Toledo Medical School conducts programming educating on PrEP and HIV awareness.  PrEP, an acronym from Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, is the use of prescription drugs by people who do not have HIV/AIDS as a strategy for the prevention of HIV/AIDS. It is an optional treatment which may be taken by people who are HIV negative, but who have substantial, higher-than-average risk of contracting an HIV infection.
Currently, the only drug which any health organization recommends for PrEP is Truvada, which is the brand name of the Gilead Sciences drug combination of tenofovir/emtricitabine. The Centers for Disease Control says that "PrEP is a powerful HIV prevention tool."
This year Holiday with Heart is pleased to have Gilead Sciences as a Sponsor of our 38th annual Gayla.  Click the logo to visit the Gilead Sciences website.

With Vendome Pastry’s online store front, Susan is able to craft your tart to order, when you need it. When you place your order online, you’ll select the day on which you’d like the tart to be available, and the location that’s most convenient for you.  Vendome Pastry has two locations for pickup, the Paula Brown Shop, or Vendome Pastry Kitchen 5960 Angola Rd. #5 in Toledo.  If you’d like to share a tart with a friend for a special occasion, you can also order a beautiful gift certificate that can be redeemed for one tart at any time.  Supporting the local economy is a priority of Susan’s so all ingredients used are fresh, seasonal and either locally produced or sourced.  Click the logo to visit the website.  Thank you Susan!

Beneficiaries Announced for 2014 Annual Dinner Dance

Why Marriage Matters Ohio is a grassroots public education campaign to build support for marriage equality in Ohio. This campaign is about having conversations and sharing stories, showing that same-sex couples and their families should be welcomed and treated fairly in Ohio. It is about opening hearts and minds throughout our state.
It is a discussion that allows Ohioans in communities across the state to examine their attitudes, beliefs, and assumptions about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people—to consider new information and perhaps reconsider old ideas. It is an opportunity to move a conversation forward about love, commitment, and family.
In Ohio, this conversation has begun. It is time to raise significant visibility of same-sex Ohio couples and their families. This project was founded by Equality Ohio Education Fund, Freedom to Marry, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation and the ACLU Foundation of Ohio.

                                        Mission Statement:

The mission of Toledo Mpowerment is to create a happy, healthy, united gay community through education and empowerment.

We are here to provide a safe place for 18-29 year old gay/bisexual/transgender men to make friends, get education they need, and to learn and grow from our programs so that they may go out into the community and help promote HIV education and safer sex.

A $2,000 check was presented first to the Toledo Pride Foundation, and another $2,000 check was presented to Spectrum UT (Gay and Lesbian Endowment Fund at the University of Toledo). Holiday with Heart now Oldest LGBT Fundraiser in Ohio
It was brought to our attention by the Gay People's Chronicle reporter, Anthony Glassman, that Holiday with Heart Charity Gayla is now the oldest and longest running LGBT fundraiser in the entire state of Ohio. As we've become a more blended society many of our annual gay and lesbian fundraisers and events are folding and falling by the wayside. Just here in Toledo we have lost SRO, Lend A Loving Hand, Decked Out, Sex, Drag and Rock & Roll and our Unity Picnic. Holiday with Heart was founded in December of 1977 by Ed Hoffman, David Hindall and the late Dick Flock. The first get together consisted of sixteen friends gathering for unity to celebrate the holidays and has become the premiere social event for the Ohio LGBT community and friends. We are very proud of this new distinction and only have the local LGBT community to thank. The first thirty five years was only the beginning, and we only hope to get bigger and better with your support.

Toledo Ballet Presented a Mini-Production at the Gayla

Holiday with Heart was proud to present a mini performance at this year's Charity Gayla. Party-goers were treated to a holiday classic by dancers from the Toledo Ballet performing excerpts from their venerable production of The Nutcracker! Founded in 1939 by Marie Bollinger, Toledo Ballet boasts the longest running production of
The Nutcracker in North America.

Holiday with Heart Included in the Parade of Trees

Holiday with Heart Charity Gayla, entered a Christmas tree we have into the Holiday Parade of Trees silent auction. In September the committee went shopping for the tree and decorations at Bronner's Christmas store in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Committee member, Rick Cornett, and volunteer coordinator, Billy Mann, will be decorated the tree Thanksgiving weekend.
The Christmas trees were up the entire month of December.

Speak Easy Party raises $2,300 for Holiday with Heart Fund

Many thanks to those you who supported our Speak Easy party on August 5th at Angelo's Northwood Villa. Holiday with Heart founder Ed Hoffman co-hosted the event with the charming Barbara Baker. Fellow committee members Andrew Larsen, Rick Cornett, Wayne North and David Bingham were also present at the roaring twenties party. The fundraiser was a lot of fun with many wearing festive outfits from the period. The event raised and deposited $2,300  into the Holiday with Heart Fund at the Toledo Community Foundation. We now have $11,868 in the account as we push towards our $25,000 goal. Once that $25,000 mark is reached we can start assisting with emergency and critical LGBT causes affecting the Toledo area lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. We hope that this becomes an annual tradition along with the gayla in December.

Thanks to our generous guests, Holiday with Heart Charity Gayla raised $10,000 in 2011. A formal presentation of $4,000 was made recently to Dr. Joan Duggan, Infectious Disease specialist, at the University of Toledo Medical Center to assist in her research and treatment of HIV/AIDS in the Toledo area. A donation of $2,000 was presented to the Pride of Toledo Foundation to assist with the upcoming 2012 Toledo Pride events. $4,000 was deposited into the Holiday with Heart/Toledo Community Foundation fund to assist with our philanthropic interests to the Toledo LGBT community. We could not have done this without YOUR support.

Committee members David Bingham, Rick Cornett, and Ed Hoffman present a check for $2,000 to the Pride of Toledo Foundation to assist with the Toledo Pride Festival and Parade. The presentation was made at outSKIRTS Bar.
